Anti-Karaoke BCN 23 August 2010

As was expected, this past Monday, August 23rd we witnessed another tremendously intense evening of sweat and rock’n’roll as well as some unexpected returns (Chacal del Utero, Fede Sex Navarro, Helena…) and a completely devoted crowd.

Rachel began the ceremony in a kitschy cabaret way with George Michael’s 80’s hit, “Careless Whisper”.  A great start to the show!

Duro de Oído stood out with an explosive “Do You Remember Rock’n’Roll Radio?”

Puppetz debuted with a very powerful version of Rammstein’s “Du Hast”.

In her return to A.K. after a long absence, Helena performed AC/DC’s “Whole Lotta Rosie”.

El Chacal del Utero returned to the show to spit out a powerful and furious “Cowboys From Hell” by Pantera.

Third Eye offered a good performance of Muse’s “Hysteria”.

Barbarah simply devastated with an incredible “Walk” by Pantera with crowd surfing included.

For the first time in months, Rachel brought back her character of Salvador Dalí Parton and unfolded her surreal breasts to the back of the club while performing Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire”.

In her second performance at A.K., Hana Monk offered a great performance of Tom Jones’ “Delilah”.

Rocko ruled in a big way with the most exciting and passionate “Jailhouse Rock” we’ve heard in a long time.

And speaking of passionate performances, what could we say about El Barón de la Birra’s “Rock’n’Roll All Nite?”  Paraphrasing Kiss: we wanted the best and we got the best!

Deirdre performed a song very few people have sung at the show, Bon Jovi’s “Wanted Dead Or Alive”.

Dani Metal was superb with an impressive “Bohemian Rhapsody” that made the crowd go wild.

El Artista Anteriormente Conocido Como Enrique gave it all on stage with a furious and visceral performance of Foo Fighters’ “The Pretender”.

The crowd in the first few rows received their Jack Daniels baptism (or Jackie Shower as Prades dubbed it) while Rachel performed “New York, New York”.

Madskoti offered a brilliant performance of the Oasis hit, “Don’t Look Back In Anger”.

Martona debuted with Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Are Made For Walking”.

Fede Sex Navarro, veteran Anti-Karaokean soldier, who was there for the first editions of the show at the Llantiol Café Theater around five years ago, came back to the show to offer his classic disturbing version of “Roxanne”.

Prades recalled the magic of the best of The Cult, from “Electric”/”Sonic Temple” with the celebrated anthem “Fire Woman”.

Kenta gave it all on stage with the always-hilarious “Gay Bar” by Electric Six.

Saguzar brought back Ozzy with “Crazy Train”.

Jen surprised us with a spectacular “Mr. Brownstone”, in what was one of the best moments of this great evening.

Rachel bombarded the crowd with slices of Bimbo bread while singing “Are You Gonna Be My Girl?”

In his debut at Anti-Karaoke, Leonhart sang System Of A Down’s “Aerials”.

Arthur also debuted this night, with The Doors’ “Roadhouse Blues”.

El Pirata del Caribe put himself in James Hetfield’s shoes and sang Metallica’s most popular song, “Enter Sandman”.

Iván also brought a good dose of Metal with System Of A Down’s “Chop Suey”.

Other songs we heard: “Run To The Hills” by Iron Maiden (Mr. Eddie Harris),

“Rock You Like a Hurricane” by Scorpions (Lion King),

Faith No More’s version of “Easy”(David Matyas),

“Crazy Little Thing Called Love” by Queen (Gausho),

“Refugee” by Tom Petty (Johnny Destiny)

and “Delivering the Goods” by Judas Priest (Jordi Halford Catalâ).

When the show was arriving at its end, Rachel and Barbarah hit us with a massive “Smells Like Teen Spirit”.

The classic invasion of the stage arrived with Fabri’s emblematic, guttural “Killing in the Name”.

And Rachel said goodbye to the four hundred people packed into the club with an entertaining “Kids In America”.

See you Monday at Anti-Karaoke!  The doors open at 21.30h, as always.
